Our annual ornament honors the 225th anniversary of the founding of the Library of Congress in 1800. The Library was originally housed in the Capitol Building. Almost 100 years later, in 1897, construction was completed to house the Library in a separate building. At the time it was built, it was considered possible to contain all knowledge within the walls of a single building. Architects John L. Smithmeyer and Paul J.
