Death Valley Ranch, or Scotty's Castle as its more commonly known, was built by Chicago millionaire Albert Mussey Johnson. However, it's named for Walter Scott, a colorful con man and prospector who convinced everyone he had built the castle with funds from a fictional gold mine.
